As we approach the Lenten season, many of us look for tangible ways to deepen our spiritual journey through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. One of the most beloved traditions for Catholic families across the country is participating in CRS Rice Bowl, and the 2026 program is officially just around the corner!
What is Operation Rice Bowl?
More than just a simple cardboard box, the Rice Bowl is a tool designed to guide us through the 40 days of Lent. It serves as a daily reminder of our commitment to help those in need around the world. Each bowl comes with a Lenten calendar filled with activities, reflections, and stories that help connect our personal sacrifices to the global community.
How to Participate
Getting involved is simple and impactful. Here is how you can join the mission this year:
- Pick Up Your Bowl: You can collect your rice bowl next week following all Masses. If you can’t make it to a weekend service, they are also available at the parish office during regular weekday hours.
- Create a Daily Reminder: Place your bowl in a central location, like your kitchen or dining table. Let it be a visual prompt for your family to pray and practice mindfulness throughout the season.
- Practice Almsgiving: Use the bowl to set aside small donations throughout Lent. Whether it’s the change from a skipped coffee or a dedicated family contribution, these “alms” make a world of difference.
- Return Your Gifts: Mark your calendars for the collection weekend! Bowls and alms should be turned in on Saturday, April 11th or Sunday, April 12th.
Why It Matters
By participating in Operation Rice Bowl, we join millions of others in a journey of encounter. The funds collected support Catholic Relief Services’ programs that provide clean water, food security, and agricultural training to communities in need, both internationally and right here at home.
