The season of Lent is a time for reflection, prayer, and sacrifice, and one of the most beloved traditions for many is the CRS Rice Bowl program. As we begin our 2026 Lenten journey, St. Angela Merici is excited to announce that Operation Rice Bowl has officially arrived!
What is a Rice Bowl?
More than just a cardboard box, the Rice Bowl is a powerful tool for spiritual growth and global solidarity. It serves as a daily reminder to pray for those in need, fast in solidarity with the hungry, and give alms to support life-changing programs around the world and in our own community.
How to Participate
Getting involved is simple and impactful for individuals and families alike:
- Pick Up Your Bowl: You can collect your Rice Bowl today after any Mass or visit the parish office during the week to pick one up.
- Make it a Centerpiece: Place your bowl on your kitchen or dining room table. Let it be a visual reminder of your Lenten commitments.
- Follow the Calendar: Each bowl comes with a Lenten calendar filled with daily activities, reflections, and stories from families around the world who are impacted by your generosity.
- Set Aside Alms: Throughout the 40 days of Lent, use the bowl to collect the money you might have spent on small luxuries or skipped meals.
Important Dates for 2026
Mark your calendars! We will be collecting the completed bowls and donations at the end of the season:
- Saturday, April 11th
- Sunday, April 12th
Why It Matters
Catholic Relief Services (CRS) uses these donations to fund projects that provide clean water, sustainable farming, and emergency relief to vulnerable communities globally. A portion of the funds also stays right here in our local diocese to support hunger and poverty alleviation programs.
By participating in Operation Rice Bowl, we turn our small sacrifices into big changes for our brothers and sisters in need.
