Sharing the Word: Welcoming Our Newest Lector

There is a profound beauty in the moment a member of our community stands before the congregation, opens the Scriptures, and allows their voice to become the vessel for the Word of God. Today, we are filled with joy as we officially welcome our newest Lector to the ministry!

As seen in the images above, this sacred role—often referred to as Proclamadores de la Palabra (Proclaimers of the Word)—is a vital heartbeat of our liturgical celebrations.

What it Means to be a Lector

Being a lector is about more than just reading aloud; it is a mission of love and reverence. Our lectors are lay members who:

  • Live their Baptismal commitment by sharing the message of the Gospel.
  • Serve the community during Sunday Mass and other liturgical gatherings.
  • Offer a living testimony born from their own personal encounter with Christ in the Scriptures.

When a lector speaks, they aren’t just reciting text; they are helping the community hear the voice of God in the present moment. It is a service that begins with personal prayer and ends in a public gift to the parish.

Join the Ministry

Does your heart stir when you hear the Word of God? Do you feel called to serve our parish “within and beyond” the church walls? We are always looking for faithful individuals to join this beautiful ministry.

“Would you like to serve in this ministry?”

If you feel called to become a Proclaimer of the Word, please reach out to Jose Lopez at 562-640-7194.

Let us continue to pray for our new lector and all those who serve, that their voices may always be guided by the Holy Spirit.
