Congratulations to Our Knights of Columbus Essay Contest Winners!

We are incredibly proud to announce that Victoria Cheney and Amilia Estrada are the winners of this year’s Knights of Columbus Essay Contest! For their outstanding work and theological reflection, each student was awarded a $1,000 scholarship to the Catholic High School of their choice.

The Challenge This year, the Knights of Columbus gave students a thought-provoking prompt asking them to reflect on the deep history and legacy of the Papacy. Noting that the Roman Catholic Church has seen 267 Popes, the students were tasked with writing a 500 to 750-word essay answering four challenging questions:

  1. Which would be your choice as the three most important Popes in the history of the Church, and why?
  2. Which accomplishments or qualities of each Pope were the ones that led to your selecting him?
  3. What, in your opinion, is the single most important quality that each Pope you selected had, and why did you choose this quality?
  4. Are any of these qualities ones by which you choose to live your own life?

Victoria and Amilia both did an exceptional job analyzing the spiritual and administrative qualities of our Church leaders and, most importantly, applying those holy virtues to their own daily lives.
